Must be missing something.
I have the 3 phase stepper driver and motor wired up to the DSP and when I turn it on I get nothing.
I have 24v power to both the DSP and the driver. Grouped all three sets of wires off the stepper motor using an ohm meter than attached them to the U, V and W. Have PUL+ and DIR+ attached to the 5V. PUL- to PUL, DIR- to DIR. My stepper is set to 5.2A current and 3200 Steps/Rev.
I was thinking when I powered it up the motor would turn looking for home, but it doesn't do anything. Tried adjusting using the arrow keys on both axis and nothing. Am I missing something simple?
Also, even without power, when it is wired up, the stepper becomes very hard to turn by hand. Is that normal?

Here is the 3 phase Motor

It is normal that the motor locked up itself when power. That is necessary for stepping motor so that step won't lose and precision ensured

Yea, I used that. I think it is hooked up right. Is there a setting or something inside the DSP or a jumper I need to make to make it move the motors. It is harder to turn before I apply power. When I do power it up the stepper has a solid green LED so I know it is getting power.

Re: Must be missing something.
Did you make any connection on Enable+ and Enable- ??
If so, take out any wires from the those two connections
Any movement when you press X &Y arrow key?

Re: Must be missing something.
My connections are:
24V supply to DSP
24V supply to 3MD560
DSP X axis to 3MD650:
DC5V to PUL+
DC5V to DIR+
PUL to PUL-
DIR to DIR-
Stepper to 3MD560:
Yellow and White to U
Blue and Red to V
Purple and Black to W
3MD560 switches set to:
4.45A
SW4 to Half Current
Steps/Revolution to 3200
When I power the unit on the face plate goes into the Resetting screen. When I press the "Read Current Position" button in laserCAD I can see the software is telling it to move in both axis. I'm assuming its trying to 0,0 at home position, but the motor does not move. Is there some other sort of circuit that needs to be closed to make it think a switch is activated or a software setting I need to put in?
No, I don't have any movement at all.

Re: Must be missing something.
I downloaded an earlier USB driver and got it to see the DSP in LaserCAD on a WIndows 7 machine I had at work. As far as the grounding we talked about earlier, I have a good ground wire on anything that has a metal box. Only the two DSP boxes are plastic, so I couldn't provided an earth ground to those.

Re: Must be missing something.
Just curious what 24V power supply you used? What is the rated output?
FYI, set the micro step to 4000 or 5000 to get better movement. But it didn't solve the non-movement issue. It just run better.
I'm still thinking what would be the cause that the motors are not running. Today, you got me in trouble. I been thinking it since this afternoon. Hope I can get enough sleep tonight

This one. I know its really big, but it was 10 bucks more and it will be in the heat so more capacity is always a good thing. Don't loose sleep, we'll get it figured out, but yea, I can't figure it out. I'm sure it's something easy. Is there a way to check signals coming out of the DSP and driver?

Re: Must be missing something.
Which port should I have the head unit connected to. I used 1.
Also, I tried using both steppers and both drivers in both the X and Y slots on the DSP, so I don't think it's a motor or driver issue. But, I only have one DSP, so I couldn't compare it against a 2nd one.

Re: Must be missing something.
Can you shoot me a picture of XY connection on the DSP.
I am just curious if you had it connected to the wrong port or something.
That power supply is good enough but not the best. It is better to use 24V for the DSP and 36V for the motor
But it should work though.
It's 10pm here and I haven't gone to bed yet. I want to help you to fix the issue or I won't sleep well
