weird engraving problem

Hey you guys,

I recently purchased the DSP controller and since a view days I have everything running pretty smooth and to my likeings.

There is only this one problem when i do a engraving:

I input a image or a vector to engrave:

I get this as a result:

to me it seams like the laser is engraving the same file 2 times, one shifted a little, but at the same time.
that does not at all make any sense to me.

does it to some of you?

any help or advice is greatly appreciated!

Does the machine engrave that whole image then go back to the start and engrave it again with that offset?

I don't have it in front of me right now but doesn't lasercad have a setting to engrave multiple copies of a file (with an offset option)? Looks like yours is set to 2 copies with an offset in the x axis.

Does lasercad show that same double image if you simulate the job on the screen?

the laser does that weird offset in one step.
when i do click the simulate button in lasercad, everything looks normal.

jet i couldnt find the offset option you were talking about, but ill have a closer look.

Check focus lens see if it is lose or off a little. Also, make sure that the laser beam is not hitting inside of the barrel and got bounce out. The reflection of beam may cause double images.

You may run it slow say 5mm/s with low firing power. Do more tests and you should be able to figure it out why it happened.

What speed are you engraving at?

I slowed mine down from 325mm/s to 300mm/s and this problem went away for me. I have some slack in the "flying head" that I need to sort out and I should be able to pick the speed back up.

To JAV-1, just curious if it will happen when doing cutting when using 325 or above?
From my previous testing, K40 should be able to run at top speed 450mm/s before losing steps

To Jonas: please do a cutting on test and a square box with low speed (20mm/s) and high speed (400mm/s). Let me know

Hi Marco,

I have the 100 watt F4 gun and the 608 controller and I'm not having any problem at any speed in the cut mode. I only see the double image in the engrave mode and only in the x-axis, as shown above.

I have replaced the x-axis motor and driver with a working motor and driver from my CNC machine, and the double image problem is still there. I don't think the problem is with the gun or mirrors, because it works fine while cutting.

Question: Is there a test that can be run on the 608 controller for the x-axis in the engrave mode?

My Operating System is Windows XP Pro Service Pack 3.
I've been using LaserCad V6.88B for a year with no problems.
Just for kicks I uninstalled that version and installed LaserCad 2013 V6.46 and had the same problem.

Received a reply from a tech in one of Pro shop. The tech said that it was most likely caused by "mismatched" issue. It is similar to using a digital camera to take a photo on a net or any mesh. For certain size zoom in or out, it will show 'mixed up' image instead of clear mesh like. It is calculation issue and only happen in digital camera.

What you need to do is to go to LaserCad parameter setup and change the "Engraving acceleration" to something other than current value. If you have 10,000, try 9,000 or 11,000 and it should fix the issue

The Engraving acceleration number is 1000 and it won't change. Under User Parameters I first "Read", Change the acceleration number, Save, click OK, and run a test. Then when I open User Parameters and Read again, the number is still 1000. It doesn't save the change.

I don't know where to find the card version. The AWC608 is s/n TC601616A.

It can't be "1000" right ?! Did you miss one 'zero' when counting it?
I don't think it works fine with such low acceleration. What happen when you key in 10,000?

I'll check mine later today to see if the Engrav_Acc can't be changed. If so, it would be stranged

The "OS" of the DSP can be checked by using the LCD control panel. Use "Menu" and the last one from the scroll will show you DSP hardware OS version

When I go to Engraving acceleration it displays 10,000. When I click Read the acceleration goes to 1000. I change it to 10,000 and save and OK. I open parameters again and it displays 10,000, click Read and it goes to 1000. It doesn't save the 10,000.

The Main board: 7.12.12.26
LCD board: 5.12.02.29
