Hello,
So I have a strange problem:
When I have the laser power set to 50% or more the DSP resets.
Example:
Cut a line 100 mm long at speed 50 mm/s
30% power works fine
50% power cuts about half way then resets the DSP
70% power laser fires briefly then rests the DSP
Pressing the laser button on the DSP also resets the DSP if power is set at 70%
Any suggestions?
DSP resets when laser power over 50%

Re: DSP resets when laser power over 50%
Hi there
what machine you have???
if you got a converted K40 machine, then the max you should set the power is 48% because thtis comes out to the max current for the k40W tube what is max 18mA, never more.
normal speed for cutting thru is around 2 to 10mm/s for material 3 mm to 6mm if you are lucky
greetings

Re: DSP resets when laser power over 50%
I have a home built laser with the light object 40W co2 laser tube and 40W power supply.
I a 0-30mA AMP Ammeter Analog Current Meter installed inline and have not gone over 15mA.
If the power supply is not plugged in the job runs normally.
Could it be high voltage interference?
I checked all of my grounds and everything checked out good.

That HV can cause a monster of interference if any other wire is touching unshielded (silicone) wires leading to or from the tube. I've had home switches, pots, everything get interrupted. I too have a homemade one, solved many a problems keeping those wires isolated.

Shielding all your wires is a must! I have fixed many weird problems by using shielded cables grounded at the controller side only. I've built a couple of CNC machines and retrofitted an old laser, both had interference issues solved by shielded cables.

The only unshielded wires I have are to the water protect switch.
I will try to bypass those and see if that fixes the problem.

Re: DSP resets when laser power over 50%
Well I replaced the unshielded wires, cut about 2 feet of the positive high voltage wire off, and rerouted the negative wire from the laser tube and everything seems to be better.
I guess I was just getting some RF noise or something.
Thanks for the advice.
