dual air assist product accessory request

Post by Raman Narayan »

Hi Marco,

Is there a possibility of seeing an air assist attachment(product)
that enables dual air assist(one for cone, and one through
a flexible but rigid tube). The attachment is more like a
"tee" with a semi rigid tube, that retrofits to existing air assist
inlet, while also allowing a parallel flexible tube that could be adjusted
to allow focused air on the work surface(It could be useful
esp. for long focus lens such as 100mm, where the
effectiveness of the cone air assist reduces(but still provides
smoke protection and cooling of lens),while the separate tube
would help with effective cutting debris removal, without a
special cone nozzle(again I made a request also for that).
This should enable low powered machines to use long focus
lenses for getting better cut quality(cut thicker material
with more straight edge).
The attachment will have a threaded end to go in nozzle,
push to lock crimp inlet, and semi rigid metal tube. A cone
with wider nozzle could also be part of the attachment(to
avoid the wider laser beam from being reflected within the
cone).
----------- <- 100mm lens
| |__________
| ____ ____<- Air assist inlet
| | | |
\ / | |
\ / | | <-repositionable metal tube with narrow nozzle
/ /

//

-------------------------- <- work surface

I do understand that dual channel air assist will need a more
powerful pump/compressor, since there will be more
air loss.

Thanks/Regards

I think my ascii diagram is little messed up due to
formatting, I've used "-" inplace of space to prevent it.
Here is the corrected one(using preview)
=========== <- 100mm lens
|------------|__________
|----------- -____---____<- Air assist inlet
|------------|----|--|
-\-----------/---|--|
--\---------/---/--/ <-repositionable metal tube with narrow nozzle(flexible plastic ball joint is also fine).
---------------/-/

-----------/-/
----------//
====X========= <-work surface

What machine do you have? In fact, I do carry longer replacement tip 75mm and 100mm for the Pro version laser head.

Hi Marco,

I do not have the professional head, and my machine(60W jinan artsign)
has a head similar to the 18-20mm black laserhead(meant for K40 replacement),
sold in lightobjects(which I verified to be an exact replacement fit).
I am trying to use longer focal length lens(70,100mm) I am using a 45W
tube from lightobjects. I understand my max cut thickness will not improve
much, but I am more interested in the better cut quality.
The accessory will benefit anyone upgrading to the light object head,
and have better air supply(ie. through a compressor).

Thanks/Regards

Well in that case, I can get you a "T" air plug and you can diverse 1/2 of of air for air-assisted cutting. What you need is to find a copper tube to insert to the T air plug and extend it closer to the surface of an object . I think it is a simpler solution

Hi Marco,

The T-connector sounds perfectly fine :) , but I could not
find the T-connector that has a pnematic snap-in
connector(for the air input, additional air assist)
combined with a threaded connection(to the cone).
If you could point to the item number, I could order it.

If you are talking about the barbed plastic-T connector(
the one that is sold with new flow sensor), it could be
bit difficult to attach to the existing snap connector
and also needs permanently attaching air inlet.
I am also not sure, if it could stay stable without putting
additional stress during movement.
I am just experimenting, so I would need something
that allows me to switch to original setup(with air assist
only to cone) easily, if things don't work as expected
with the 100mm lens.

Thanks/Regards

Hi Marco,

I did find something that I could use in Ebay.
Actually if there is something that combines
a fitting with control valve to the cone with
a tee for the dual air assist, that will be even better.
I am just posting the two versions of airassist
for reference.

Thanks/Regards
