Hi Guys
Hoping you can help me with my issue.
I am trying to align my buildlog 2.x laser, and when I press "Laser" on my DSP control panel, it keeps firing. AFAIK, it should be a momentary switch. If I press it again, the laser does not quit firing, but if I hold it down, it does quit firing. I then unplugged it from the wall.
I have searched the forums for answers, and found that the control panel on the DSP may need grounding. Here are the steps I have taken so far:
-Ensured proper grounding to wall through plug-and that wall plug is grounded
-Made sure that all frame extrusions are grounded to terminal strip. All show less than 0.3 ohms on a quality Fluke meter
-Grounded the cases of the laser PS, 24V PS, DSP case, and DSP display. All show less than 0.3 ohms on meter
-With the Laser plugged into the wall, checked my "Line(hot)" to the extrusions, got 122.2 V (which it should be)
-With the Laser plugged into the wall, checked my "Neutral" to "line", got 122.2V (which it should be)
-With the laser plugged into the wall, checked "Ground" to "Neutral", got .330 mV (which it should be)
Pressing "Laser" on the DSP--checking between ""Neutral" and "Laser PS case", got .410 mV (which it should be)
I have the following connections from the DSP to my Laser PS:
PS DSP
TH---------TTL
WP-
G--'--------GND ("WP" and "G" are jumpered as of right now)
IN----------PWM
The only thing that I couldnt find any information on was the "Negative" wire leading from the laser tube to the power supply. I used 14 ga. wire and ran it away from other wiring.
I ordered the 40-60 W Laser PS from Lightobject. I havent seen a picture of that PS anywhere on the net, it doesnt look like the other power supplies that have a "Blue" wire coming out of it to hook onto the negative end of the tube. It has a screw terminal which I connected the negative wire from the laser tube to.
If anyone can help me out with more troubleshooting, i would appreciate it.
Pressing laser on the control panel is NOT momentary...

Re: Pressing laser on the control panel is NOT momentary...
Guys
Looks like the error was mine. I had the TH hooked up to TTL, when it should have been the TL hooked up to TTL.
Guess I should have read the instructions better...
One good learing experience from all of this (the silver lining thing)...
the only thing that had case grounding was the 24V PS. All other items did not.
Maybe it will help you, hope it does...

Re: Pressing laser on the control panel is NOT momentary...
I am experiencing the same issue. I have an 80w tube as well. I check my from the DSP to the laser PS and everything checks out...I checked it at least 10 times.
If I set the laser power under 20% it does nothing. I hear a small hissing from the laser powers supply but it doesn't appear as though the tube is firing. When I set it to 20%, sometimes it will burst as expected but leaves a very faint mark on my test card. But then sometimes when I press the laser button it stays on - forcing to push my e-stop.
Can it be that something is not properly grounded? Like the laser PS?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Pressing laser on the control panel is NOT momentary...
I've just converted my K40 machine to a AWC 608 DSP setup, including 40W PWM power supply.
So far I've been very impressed and happy with it, but as soon as the laser is fired, either manually or through a program, it will stay on at 2mA, which is enough to make a small smoke signal if I place a piece of timber under the beam.
Any ideas where to begin trouble shooting this?
Thanks in advance.

What thype of laser power supply are you using?
AC110 or AC220

Re: Pressing laser on the control panel is NOT momentary...
I have same issue and my PS is 110. When I hooked everything up to test setup it worked perfect but after installing everything in it's place now when I hit laser the dsp screen goes blank then says waiting and laser stays on at 12ma. If I hit reset it stops and homes like it should. I also noticed that while I'm cutting the screen will go blank then say waiting every few seconds but dows not interfer with cut. I dissconected all wires like and reconnected everything and problem remains. When I hit laser and it keeps firing if I keep hitting the button it will finly beep, stop firing and then work properly when pressing laser until I jog then it will stay on again.

See this post for how to fix the non-stopping laser:

Regarding the blank screen, it's because you didn't have good "grounding" on the machine, and power supply. It's an interference caused by the laser power supply.
