Can the 40w power supply handle a 50w tube?

Post by twosoc »

Hi, it sounds silly but I read a thread marco posted about what the power supplies he stocks can run. I'm sure it said that the 40w power supply can run 40-60w tube but I don't want to risk it if its not true. I can get 50w tubes a bit easier than 40w it seems, but it might not be worth the bother and expense if I have to upgrade the power supply too.
Any ideas anyone?

Tim:

The 40W~60W is not the same as the 40W that I'm carrying. The 40W~60W actually is a 60W power supply with two high voltage transformer. It outputs up to 26mA but a 60W tube should use 22mA. But a true 40W PS may not power a 60W tube in full power.

Therefore, if you want to have full performance from a 60W, then I suggest you to use a "60W" power supply. To avoid the confuse, I decided to remove the "40W" from the title of the 60W PS. You may get up to 20mA from a 40W PS, about 80%

Ok cheers Marco, I might look into getting a new ps if 50w tubes are easier to get. I'll give it some thought.

For 50W tube (850mm), the 40W PS should work fine.

sorry, I miss-understood :) Cheer,s I'll see what I can get. Just had a really bad 40w tube that really wasn't putting out anywhere near 40w, the seller didn't want to know really. So I'm going to have to source them from the UK so I can go and see the actual seller. My own fault I guess.
