Getting all the wiring laid out for my 600x900 laser build and because of the size of the machine, when mounting the DSP in the back of the laser, there is not enough cable to have the display in the front of the laser. Is it possible to splice in a length of 5 wire cable to add length? If so, is there a limit to how much length I can add?
Thanks,
Paul

Re: Question on the DSP Display Cable
Bump on this - Has anyone increased the length of the DSP display cable?

Paul:
Can't you move the controller closer to the LCD control panel? I don't suggest to extend the length of the cable from the DSP main board to the LCD control unit as doing so it may get interference from the high voltage power supply (30KV!) through electromagnetic filed. If you have to do so, make sure you wrap the cable up with a layer of aluminum foil and grounded one end to discharge any 'noise'.

Re: Question on the DSP Display Cable
I'm having a similar problem with my build I'm doing the 1200x1800 build and to protect extending mine I plan on using metal braiding and grounding one end like Marco said.. http://www.mcmaster.com/#standard-cable ... ng/=lat64f

Re: Question on the DSP Display Cable
you could try to join two such original cabel with a coupling like for monitor DB9 cabel. you need to check for the right pin connection.

Re: Question on the DSP Display Cable
An update -
I got some shielded 5 conductor cable and lucked out by having the proper mating connectors available at work. I build a 5' cable and so far so good. I have not fired up the laser yet - still in the building stage, but there does not seem to be any interference issues with the motors running. I have the shield on the end going to the DSP available to ground if I do run into interference issues from the laser.
By the way - if anyone is interested I am documenting my build over on buildlog.net under J-Frame Build
