Always connect to the negative side of the power supply. Don't do it on the Positive(+) side or it will blow it. See picture attached.
Some meter may comes with a little shunt (resistor). Just put it in series with the power supply and the tube. Then, connect the input pins from the current meter across on the two side of the shunt and you can read the current.

Re: Converting K40IV CO2 Laser machine to DSP
Hi Everyone,
I'm completely new here, I have also brought the K40 machine and want to upgrade it to use the DSP controller. Before i order all the parts i need to find out if i need to purchase the power supply suggested here on page 1 of this thread or if the power supply that came with it is useable, I have the same power supply in mine as tech_marco has in his videos
Thanks in advance

I have decided to order the power supply as well, after looking closely at the current power supply in there the solder joints are so bad i think it would cause more problems in the long run

Re: Converting K40IV CO2 Laser machine to DSP
Hi All
I'm slowing going through the conversion process after receiving all the components today, however i am stuck on the ribbon wire and how it connects to the stepper motor driver.
The ribbon wire has 12 connecting points but I can see from photos already on this forum that only 4 are used but I cannot find which 4 I'm using tb6560 stepper motor drivers
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Re: Converting K40IV CO2 Laser machine to DSP
Thanks for all the advice Teacdance. I'm now fully connected up.
I tried cutting a basic circle to start with but when i sent the circle image to the laser it instead engraved 31 straight lines one above the other spaced about 0.5 mm apart and each line was 70mm long. No idea where it's getting that information from.
I then copied your settings on page 3 of this thread (as i have no idea how to program these things) and now it says "not enough extend space please esc" which i understand from an earlier post is because the image is to close to the edge of your usable area however i have tried moving the image to different parts of the page but still getting the same message.
