I can confirm that yes, Virginia, you can engrave and cut Christmas cookies on a CO2 laser. At least sugar cookies anyway. Wife has not made any Gingerbread to try yet.

While the cookies can be cut, the cut areas do taste burnt and pretty bad. Engraving, however, works good and does not change the taste noticeably as long as you don't try a deep engrave.

And why would anyone try this? Well, my wife does an incredible job hand decorating the cookies by hand with each of them different. I wanted to put her name and "Christmas 2014" on the backs for an added touch.

When I first got the laser I cut "I love you" in a slice of toast and it made the expense of the laser go down a little easier.

Love the tortillas! I will definitely have to try that. Thinking some special breakfast burritos in bed for my wife on Valentines. Might help with telling her that I need to spend more money on building a bigger laser.

I told my wife that if she polishes her nails I can selectively burn through the polish and give her some pictures etched in her nails. So far she has not let me try it. I don't understand. What could possibly go wrong as I experiment with different power and speed settings?

It also doubles as a cuticle remover. Now all you need is a CNC router and a buffing pad and you've got a robotic manicure. If you're really brave, swap out the buffing pad for a diamond tip and make that mustache come alive in 3D!
