XLE 600*400 XY Stages complete kit For Diy Laser
Good Morning All,
I was wondering if I were to buy the XLE 600x400 would the AWC608 Commercial DSP CO2 Laser Engraving/ Cutter Controller work for building a laser engraver? i bought the k40 and i recieved it on monday damaged parts and cracked fan from ebay. Planning to return it and build one from scratch. I have a cnc ive been using but its to small to retrofit for a laser unit even though that would be nice.
Any help would be appreciated.

yes. i built a XLE 900x600 and with the AWC608 and a 60W laser tube and use it very successfully for cutting and engraving.

Re: XLE 600*400 XY Stages complete kit For Diy Laser
since the 600x400 x/y stage comes with the upgraded 1.2 degree 5.2A 3 phase nema motors, I assume i would have to buy the 3MD560 Leadshine 3 Phase 8.4A 1-axis Stepping Motor Driver. Would it be better to not buy the dsp upgrade kit and just buy what i need seperately? so i dont have multiple nema drives laying around...i dont have access to 3 phase power only single phase but i want the size of the 600x400.

my XLE kit came with two motors, so i bought the following to control them:
1x EPS-D3624V10ADual DC 36V & 24V 10A Switching Power Supply. Ideal for DSP System
1x LSR-4XDSPV2012AWC608 Commercial DSP CO2 Laser Engraving/ Cutter Controller
2x ECNC-3MD5603MD560 Leadshine 3 Phase 8.4A 1-axis Stepping Motor Driver

do you know if i could go with a 2 phase controller setup? only because where i live i dont have access to 3 phase power.

"three phase" in regards to the stepper drivers refers to the way the motors are driven, not to the AC power.
you're fine with 2 phase AC power.
you're fine with 2 phase AC power.

i feel dumb forgot that the dc voltage comes from the power supply...

no worries. it's kind of complicated, but there are a lot of folks here who are happy to help.Mordecaix89 wrote:i feel dumb forgot that the dc voltage comes from the power supply...

I was wondering how do I figure out if use a nema 23 stepper motor rated at 2.8amps which amp driver and power supply do I use? Would the 2 Phase 4.5A 1-axis Stepping Motor Driver work and then for a power supply for the motor and driver?

most stepper drivers have dip switches on them to set motor current. here's the link to the leadshine 3md560's that i'm using:Mordecaix89 wrote:I was wondering how do I figure out if use a nema 23 stepper motor rated at 2.8amps which amp driver and power supply do I use? i don't think you'll have a problem as long as you can set the output current to to be at or less than the maximum rated current for your motors.
it is never a bad idea to go for overkill on the psu. the drivers will only take as much current as they need and having extra headroom is always a good thing.
