Issues with laser power supply output and/or tube output

We recently (in June) ordered a RECI Z4 and a RECI P14. The tube and the power supply install went as expected, BUT we are having issues with the output.

The power supply doesn't get above 6ma. Then after a couple of test fires the power supply goes into protect mode. (shuts down w/ a fault condition) The power supply is saying that there is a short. BUT I cannot find a short. The HV lead is going directly to the Anode of the tube and the Ground lead is going directly to the Cathode.

Could the tube be bad?
Could the Power Supply HV wires be bad?
Could this be a grounding issue?

Couldn't be the tube as we tested it before ship.
Did you order AC110V or AC220V?
It look like to me that the PSU is 220V and you powered it by 110V. If not, either your controller locked up the output or one of high voltage coil is dead.

The RECI P14 says that the input voltage is from 90v-240v. We have a 120v outlet. (and the laser is designed for 120v.)

I may try to make a test box to eliminate the controller and see if the problem persists.

Update: Test box didn't affect the power output. It is still at 6ma which is read on the power supply. We will be testing the laser tube in a few min with a remanufactured power supply. (We remanufactured the power supply that we had removed. It isn't the best of supplies, but would get us an answer if it is the supply.)

We tested the power supply with the old tube. Same result.

Is there any way that the PS can be tested elsewhere or RMA?

You better try it with AC220V. If they (manufacturer) didn't setup the frequency properly, a 80W PSU may not be able to output high current enough. FYI, P14 is not really Reci made power supply. It is just an OEM product from a PSU manufacturer.

By the way, what is setup on your machine I mean the DSP controller card. What is the "Max output" in % I believe.
Better to post a screen shoot about your DSP configuration here so that I can tell if I can do trouble shooting for you
Are you using our DSP or others?

You may test the max output simply applying +5V to the IN. Ground the "WP". Once "TL" is touching the GND, it will fire in full power. Please note that you should have a current meter to connect the laser tube in series on the negative side. Do not connect the current meter on the Positive or it will blow the amp meter out without mercy. Plus, make sure you have water running when doing test. If you found that current is over 30mA, you may stop immediately as over current may damage the laser tube permantely.

We tested the power supply at Full Spectrum in Las Vegas. (We are here for DEFCON.) They tested it at 120v and 240v with the same result.

Can we get RMA started for the Power Supply?

We are using the Retina Engrave controller.

I'll try to fix it for you. If I can't, I'll send you a replacement but not the same model as we only ordered 1unit for you. FYI, this Reci power supply is just an oem product. It is similar to other power supply that we're carrying. Let me know if that is OK for you
