Just received a email from a customer who complained a cracked F4 100W laser tube. He purchased the tube about month ago and the inner glass tube was cracked. He wanted a replacement from us but I denied it. Reason? Two reasons below:

1) He is using non-compressor (chiller) cooling system for a 100W tube. He was using a CW3000 which is NOT a water chiller but it is just a water radiator cooling system good enough for a 60W laser tube at most. For 80W~100W, everyone should use at least CW5000 or equivalent compressor grade water chiller. For 120W to 180W, one should use CW5200 grade water chiller.

2) A laser tube will not cracked without a reason after a month usage. It is most likely caused by physical damage or overheated or running it without water. Picture showing that the cracked was extremely sharp and I am sure that it is caused by running the tube without cooling or someone dropped it.

I need to emphasis again that CW3000 is NOT a water chiller. It is a closed loop water radiator without compressor. So, temperature will never drop below room temperature and the temp will go higher and higher once a laser tube is firing!

I will not grant the warranty due to improper cooling system is used. This is not a defective tube and the cause of crack was not because of a defective tube but it is a user error. If it is not an user issue and if the tube still within the warranty, I'll honor the warrant without a doubt! I am honest to my customer and I desire the same respect from my customer as well

The buyer said that we tested the laser without water. It is impossible! We never said that we tested a laser tube prior to ship without water cooling.

By the way, if you firing up a laser tube without water, do NOT try to cool it by putting water or it will cause a thermal shock to kill the tube.

I think the buyer did that and caused the cracked. If you pay attention on those two images, it cracked not only the Positive terminal but somewhere in the middle of tube. It is no way a tube could break in such a way and cracked in two areas. It is a symptom of THERMAL SHOCKS!

Anyone not agreed my ratiocination?

Update:

This morning while I was driving to work. I gave him a call and explained to him that for a laser tube with 80W wattage or above, he has to use a water chiller like 5000 series (compressor type). But he was blaming on us not telling him in advance when we sold him the 100W tube. I guess when he go to supermarket buying meat and expecting staff to tell him a refrigerator is required to cool the meat if not eating soon. He said that he consulted with the MornTech (who care who is)and they told him that CW3000 was good for a 100W tube! (What a joke). I replied that MornTech was MornTech, they're not LightObject.

I emphasized to him that CW3000 was not a chiller but it was just a closed loop water radiator. He insisted that CW3000 was a chiller because it marked "Industries chiller". I told him that the manufacturer who made it and for those seller on ebay were not telling the fact. I did mention times on this forum that CW3000 is not a chiller. He kept blaming on us not telling him this or that. Hey, If you didn't ask, we couldn't tell. Bought a wrong type cooling unit and then blamed on us. No one can take his blame at all.

I decided to give him a refund and closed the case. This guy blame on us foreverything and not listening. If I gave him a replacement, the chance was that the tube wont last long. A100W tube is a different animal than a 80W. People just don't listen and I won't let it happen to us again. So rather than argument with him anymore, I asked him to go buy from the MornTech if he believed that CW3000 would work properly for a 100W. He seems though that I was hoping push him to buy a chiller from us, he was wrong because it was not my intention. I won't sell anyone anything if I know it is not a good match!
