80W Laser Power Supply Questions

Post by hobbes88 »

Hello,

I recently completed my buildlog 2.x 80W build, after running a handful of short test cuts to align the optics and determine cutting/engraving speeds and power for my material I started my first large job. About 15 minutes in the entire machine powered down and refused to turn back on. I was running the machine off a 15a surge protector with another 10a fuse protecting the 110V coming into the machine, neither tripped. I removed my 24v power supply and powered that up separately and it works fine.

The LPSU however refuses to power on. I have it set to run on 110v. When the LPSU is not connected my terminal strip reads as follows: hot to gnd 110V ; neutral to gnd 0V ; and hot to neutral 110v. However when the LPSU is connected neutral to gnd reads 110V as well.

I opened the LPSU, the internal 6.3A fuse is not blown and I do not see any obvious shorts or burns.

If this is not covered by warranty I understand, but any help determining the root cause of the failure would be appreciated before I install a new power supply.

LPSU make / model : Jupiter BH-80W
Laser tube SP-80W
ACW608 controller

Thanks

Is the LPSU fan running when power it by AC110V?
First, check water protection and make sure "WP" is grounded.
Second, do a bypass test:
Put a jumber to +5V to "IN". Once you connect either TL to Gnd or TH to 5V, it should fire in full power.

Note: If TL to Gnd couldn't fire but TH to +5V does fire, it means that the controlling circutry is damage.
Usually it is caused by bad grounding and noise from EMI cause feedback that killed the PWM circutry.

Give a test and let me know

Since you already opened the case, take a picture of the main board an post it here. I may be able to do some troubleshooting

When plugged in to AC110v the LPSU fan turns on for about a half of a second and then there is a small 'click' and it turns off.

I could not get either bypass test to fire the laser.
