Vector - for cutting (example: coreldrasw, illustrator, autocad...)
Raster - engraving (image files like .jpg, .gif, .bmp...)
PPI - Pulse per Inch or Pulse per mm. It's widely used in cutting. Instead of having laser output continously, it output in 'pulse' style. With this feature, it avoids over burning on the surface of materials. When PPI is used for wood, it create less charring (over burned). When PPI is used for acrylic, it help to prevent the concave that is caused by over-heated. It take time to learn the pulse rate and speed for different materials.
