You may do 5 to 10 turns "counter-clockwise" on that potentiometer (VR). Make sure to turn PS off before doing so to avoid accidentally shocking by the PS.

Is there any way to know whether it has worked or not?

Just press "Laser" on the LCD unit of DSP and you can tell. If it works, there should have no beam shoot out. Do it on a piece of paper. Assuming the 6 turns it stop, then you may want to add 2 more turns

I think it worked. Thanks Marco.

One more issue (which may have been solved by this also but I haven't tried it) is that the laser doesn't seem to fire at all if I set it below 30%. At 30% it was around 8-10mA, but for cutting paper I thought I might be able to do it with less power.

I'm wiring the DSP board but I don;t know how to wire the grounding cable from the Power supply and the DC24V PSU.
I found this diagram: download/file.php?id=1301&mode=view
But I can't imagine how to do it

Can someone help?

My k40 machine came with 2 yellow grounding wires secured to the grounding terminal on the rear of the main housing which is also linked to the earth terminal in the mains power socket. I used one to ground the 24v psu, one for the laser psu. (From memory).
On the rear of the laser psu is the HV red wire and then a grounding terminal, which is for the other (blue?) wire from the laser. The ammeter should be connected in series on this wire.

I finished wiring everything except for the cables that come from the power socket!! X(

The cables go to the switch, but from the switch I have no IDEA where the red and black cables go X( If possible could someone show me a picture or a digram of where they go? this is the last thing I need to do to finish installing the board :/

Here's a quote from when I had the same trouble on the previous page of this thread:

OK, I had another look at the way the original K40 was set up, and it used a little junction block for the 240v AC input. I kept this block and hooked it up as follows.
One set of red/black wires goes to the case cooling fan (240V AC).
One set of red/black wires goes to the laser power supply (AC/AC)
The last set of red/black wires goes to the 24V PSU - Red to "L" and black to "N". This differs to the wiring diagram on here.

Keep in mind that there may be differences in the original K40 laser units.
This little green terminal block has 4 sets of red and black wires soldered into a parallel circuit. Input is from the switch and 3 outputs. This circuit has 240V going through it! I insulated and secured it up and away from everything else as I see this as a major hazard. Be careful! I'm not a qualified electrician and everything I say should be taken as advice only from a fellow hobbyist. Ensure that you are satisfied with your own work, knowledge and ability before connecting to the power.

Thanks! Though... It's a bit complicated to understand. Is there anyway to get a diagram or picture from somebody?

ok. I finished wiring the machine an it turns on but the laser doesn't turn on an the X and Y motors are not working (dont move). Th emotors make a noise like they are trying to move but don't move anything.

From panel and wiring I removed the test laser button, the Laser switch button, and the Regulating Knob.
I checked the wiring and I noticed that X microstep driver has no power. (The green LED is not on.)
I kept the Laser PSU so I kept the green resistor.
The Laser PSU has one 1 LED light turn on. The WP.
As for the DC24V/5A PSU, I changed the voltage to 110V instead of 220V.
I didnt buy any limit swtiches, or a DC Digital Meter, so I kept the analog mA reader that came with the machine.
I edited the wiring image found here to reflect how I wired my machine. i also posted pictures to illustrate what I did.
Can someone please tell me what did I do wrong?

That diagram is still incomplete. There should be the same power going to the x axis stepper motor driver as there is to the y axis.

there needs to be a bridge connection between the WP and the GP connector on the laser PSU

I did do that, but the laser turned on once and didnt do ahything more.

not sure what you mean by "turned on once". did it fire? or do you mean the laser PSU enabled the laser once.
on the lightobject psu, there's an indicator if the laser is enabled/disabled.

in general, i usually test my system in components before I make all the wire connections. its easier to debug.
- 24V PSU (does it power on when I connect power lines)
- Laser PSU (does it power on when I connect power lines - make sure laser tube wires are well isolated just incase)
- Controller (does it power on with 24V PSU)
- X Axis (stepper, driver) - can I control it with LCD panel
- Y Axis (Stepper, driver) - can I control it with LCD panel
- Laser Tube
Laser PSU WP - is the laser disabled if WP connection is open? - indicator on lightobject laser PSU
Laser PSU WP - is the laser enabled if WP connection is connected to ground? - indicator on lightobject laser PSU
Does the laser tube fire? - cardstock in front of first mirror (the one the tube points at)

hope you get it all sorted out soon. it's a great machine after the upgrade.

I am Having the problem of the laser not shutting down fully after a job. It will run fine and then it stays on at a very low power, I have a 40W tube and one of your new PS. I tried the 6-10 turns counter clockwise on the pot but it doesnt seem to do anything at all. Once a job has run or the Laser button has been pressed on the panel, you can see a little bit of plasma or glow at the end of the tube.

Should doing the 6-10 turns stop the laser button from doing anything?

Any other thoughts? Could it be unsheilded cables for to the dsp?
