Post by edcross »

Have a Y 12" - X 20" FSL hobby 5th gen laser , installed LO E5 controller and stepper drivers , have Lasercad 7.68 installed . When I push x or y axis buttons on controller it will only travel approx 8" , when I draw a rectangle asy 10" x 10" it will only travel 8"x8" . I have the machine set for x- 508mm y 304mm , What am I missing ??

Q: When the DSP card powers up, both the X and Y motors do not move or only move a little, why is that?

Ans: In most cases, this issue is due to the improper ‘um’ (micro stepping) setting.

Solution:
There is an ‘um’ calculator built in on LaserCad. You need to make a small cut for a square(for example: 50mm x 50mm but any size works). Enter the expect value, in this example ‘50mm’, then enter the actual value from the cutting. The calculator will come up with a proper ‘um’ for the motor setting. Note, if the XY stage is not moving at all, try one of these ‘um’ to make the stage starting moving: 4, 4.5, 6, 6.5, 9, 12.6. Then redo the calibration again.

My home position is top right X - Y . When I start controller the X quivers and the Y starts to move in the opposite direction until I push stop . When I push X button on control it only moves approx 8" and stops , the work area is set for x - 508mm Y 304mm ( 20" x 12" ) When I move the x until it stops at 8"and read the position on Lasercad , it showes X - 508mm . The Y shows 304mm when it should show 0mm ??

Work area set for X 600mm Y 600mm , push X on controller , only travels 203.2 mm but on Lasercad screen shows 600mm for position for X try um cal abrasion , no difference .
