JLD7100 PID Temperature Controller Setting

Post by schwatk »

I just bought a JLD7100 PID Temperature Controller.
I've printed out the manual. But sorry to say I can't make hide nor hair of it.
I am clueless when it comes to electronics. And have no idea what these settings are or
should be.

I want to use it with a thermocouple to tell me the temperature inside my bladesmithing
forge. I don't need alarms, on and off, or high and low settings. I just need it to tell me the
temperature inside my forge.

I've called LightObject and their answer is use the manual. Not much help there if you can't understand it.

Can someone tell me what the settings should be? I have a type "K" thermocouple.

I've tried the "Auto Tuning". I can get the light blinking. But it never stops.

Please feel free to email me at [email protected]

Thank you for any and all help!

this should be really easy. the manual assumes you already understand how to enter the setting modes.
but this should get you set up

press the set button
using the arrows to move the blinky bit over and the numbers up and down make it say 0089
then press set again
use the up and down arrows to get it to to say inty
then press set again
use your up and down arrows to get it to say k which doesn't look like a k at all. it sort looks like this
|_|
|

then press set again
then use up and down arrows to make it say end
then press set again
then you should be fine and able to tell what temp it is wherever in your forge you put the thermocouple. make sure it can handle the range you need. if not k thermocouples are not terribly expensive

cumorglas,

Thanks for the help!

Is the thermocouple type the only thing I need to set?

I don't need to set any of the other parameters to use
it as a simple temperature guage?

Thanks again.

Take care!

if you are just using as a temperature gauge that should be it.

i am guessing that this is an insulated propane fired forge? that should be a pretty even temp and fairly easy to maintain.

i have a charcoal wazikashi sized forge that i built for one job and have only used once since. it is a real challenge heating evenly.

cumorglas,

That's exactly what I'm using it for.

Thank you for the help. The manual had me really confused.
I was able to figure out how to set the parameters. I just didn't
know what they should be set to.

Take care!
