Perspex sheet, anyone used it?

Post by twosoc »

Hey I got some 0.5mm perspex sheet in to do a job for a friend and tried the old flame test and everything was fine, no green smoke at all. Came to cut it on the laser and it cut beautifully but produced an orange cobwebby fluff where it was cut. I've never cut perspex before so is this normal or have I got some that isn't actually perspex? I've also got some 2mm sheet from elsewhere that I've not had chance to try yet, but really don't want to have wasted all this stuff.

Doesn't sound like perspex to me but I haven't cut much of it.
You may have some PET plastic which is pretty similar to Acrylic but a bit softer and a tad more flexible but is very strong.

hmm, might leave it then, its a bit flexible anyway, so no great loss, don't want to risk drowning in my own lung soup for something that isn't quit right. Can't seem to find any 1mm perspex thats not silly prices though.
